How We Are Working With Clients on ISO and Audits Throughout COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the way businesses operate, function, and perform. With restrictions on in-person meetings and internal audits, we have restructured our service delivery to continue supporting our clients effectively.

By embracing remote implementation and auditing of ISO Standards, we have adapted to the pandemic’s ever-changing circumstances, ensuring that businesses across the UK receive the essential services they need.

Remote ISO Auditing and Consultancy

In these uncertain times, businesses must adapt to remain operational. For those seeking ISO certification or maintaining existing certifications, we have tailored our services to meet client needs while upholding our high standards.

Over the past few months, we have developed a robust remote service to provide all the benefits of our regular ISO audit services safely, adhering to social distancing and lockdown guidelines. Advances in technology allow us to perform most assessments, audits, and consultations remotely, helping clients achieve new certifications or maintain their existing standards. This approach ensures that organizations remain resilient, uphold high standards, and protect both the business and its employees.

Benefits of Remote Auditing

Remote auditing not only enables us to continue delivering vital consultancy and auditing services but also offers several benefits for companies:

  • Applicable to most sectors.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance.
  • Preserves the certification cycle for standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Less time-consuming than in-person meetings.
  • Structured similarly to on-site audits.
  • Logistically simpler, eliminating the need for conference rooms, venues, and sustenance, with minimal disruption to employees.
  • Suitable for both new certification and maintaining accreditation.

ISO Certification Renewal During the Pandemic

Despite restrictions preventing certification bodies from visiting some premises, remote auditing has allowed many to continue certifying organizations.

UKAS has stated that if certification bodies cannot perform an audit due to COVID-19 restrictions, an external audit must be completed either three months after restrictions are lifted or 12 months from the audit due date, whichever comes first. Failure to complete the audit within this timeframe will result in the withdrawal of certification until a new audit is conducted.

New ISO registrations can still proceed, with stage 1 and stage 2 audits conducted remotely via video calls, photos, and document-sharing platforms. This enables our auditors to assist in implementing and reviewing systems while providing necessary support.

Should You Wait for an Audit?

The future remains uncertain, but as restrictions ease, certification bodies will likely face a backlog of new applications and renewals. Maintaining high standards is crucial during this period, making our remote ISO consultation and internal audit services indispensable. We offer structured, practical guidance and advice, along with visual and verbal communication on crisis management, health and safety, risk management, and compliance.
